The term gingivitis, means the inflammation of the gums. This inflammation often comes from the accumulation of plaque and tartar creation between the teeth and gums. The microbial plaque which gathers between the teeth and the gums produces acids which reach the periodontium and irritate the gums.
It affects the majority of adults but also a significant percentage of children. The main features of gingivitis are the swelling of gums, bright red and bleeding gums especially during brushing, using toothpick etc. Gingivitis is caused not only by the accumulation of plaque and bacteria on the teeth. It can also be caused by incorrect restorations (crowns, bridges, fillings). <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Acute gingivitis<\/strong><\/p>

Is gum disease which occurs abruptly and involves one or more teeth. Often, you see that at some point your gums might bleed during brushing.<\/p>

Severe gum disease is usually caused by the following factors:
1) By neglected oral hygiene (when not properly and regularly brushing teeth and gums ).
2) Other factors not related to poor oral hygiene but can cause gum disease is an acute traumatic occlusion (when a tooth finds his rival ahead of the remaining teeth in occlusion).
3) Incorrect prosthetic work (fillings, bridges, crowns) which by construction hold food between the teeth and are difficult to properly brush and remove bacteria from the mouth.<\/p>

Chronic gum disease is gingivitis, which lasts for some time. The patient sees his gums bleed during brushing and often more than one bleeding gums.
Chronic gingivitis is usually caused by:<\/p>


Hormonal disorders and lasts as long as the period of hormonal disorders.\u00a0
Chronic gingivitis is observed in patients taking antiepileptic drugs and some people who have diabetes or are under anticoagulant therapy.
Patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation to the oral cavity, may develop gingivitis<\/p>
